For me there is equality in possession place and practice where women are concerned. I will not change that. I shall give whatever little that I will possess some day to my children, a girl and/or a boy, in equal measure. I would wish for respect for the lady. I would wish for their protection in all walks of life and particularly so in society. And I would wish that the demon of abuse against them be permanently demolished, to save and care for their sanctity and their grace and dignity.
I wonder if I ever shared this tale with you before this. It comes yet again from my back in my memories.
In the early days of the millennium an old friend of mine father was in the hospital in Manhattan, NYC. To not disturb his memory will give him a fictitious name, Mike. When my father’s friend was still alive, frail in health but never too frail to not be mobile, staying not too far from where I used to live in Long Island, a moment of pride for all son and children in this part of the world where looking after the ageing parents in their own homes is a divine possession, he had an accidental fall and broke his hip bone.
” Burre phanse” he said when he was laid up and had to be admitted to a Hospital. He hated being there, but circumstances were not conducive for him to not, for he soon developed a bronchial problem and his stay got extended. I visited him very often in the hospital, and stay by his side for hours. The personal nurse that had been assigned to him was efficient friendly and warm hearted, as most nurses are. And my Mike grew attached to her and her care. A normal phenomena when in hospitals; you tend to rely on the judgement and personal care that nurses attending on you indulge in.
All was going well until one day the nurse did not report for duty. Instead, a male nurse was nominated to look after and take personal care of Mike. This seemed to upset him and not comfortable with this change - most elderly deplore any kind of change in their routine - asked the hospital authorities why the lady nurse had not come.
The hospital management elder was beckoned and the question put to him.
With some guilt and a somewhat embarrassed expression, the management in an apologetic voice told my Mike that, a new patient had been admitted in the room opposite him on the same floor, and he, the patient opposite, being a ‘godman’, a saint with some followers, had told the hospital that their very strict diktat was that no women were to be on the same floor of the hospital where this ‘godman’ was admitted. On being asked why the ‘godman’ and his followers had informed the hospital that ‘Saint’, kept a distance from women, they were not allowed to come near him and touching or any talking to him was not permitted. It would pollute his ‘sainthood’ they said.
My Mike patiently listened to this explanation, kept quiet for a while and then in a voice filled with utter disgust shouted out loudly, loud enough for the ‘patient’ across the corridor to hear perhaps …
” Inse poocho ye nikale kahan se the ” !!
“Ask this saint where did he come out from” !!!
No woman. No life !!
Love to all...
DiL
